Spanish Football Luis Rubiales Detailed Information:

The president of the Spanish Football Federation is being asked to step down for kissing a player.

It was widely believed that action was taken in an effort to intimidate Rubiales’ detractors, including government ministers who had called for his dismissal.

Leading members of the Spanish Football Federation demanded the resignation of suspended president Luis Rubiales for kissing a player on the lips during the Women’s World Cup final.
The appeal was made in a joint statement by the leaders of the regional organizations that comprise the federation (RFEF).

The statement read, “The presidents request that Luis Rubiales resign immediately as president of the RFEF after the latest developments and the unacceptable behavior that has greatly damaged the image of Spanish soccer.”The heads additionally requested interim president Pedro Rocha to promptly revoke the federation’s Monday appeal to UEFA suspending it from international competitions due to meddling from the government over efforts to oust Rubiales.

Observations from the Spanish Football Federation regarding Rubiales

In a statement, the football federation stated that “the presidents request that Luis Rubiales resign immediately as president of the RFEF” due to recent events and unacceptable behavior that “seriously damaged the image of Spanish football.”

In an earlier statement, Hermoso stated she “felt vulnerable and a victim of an assault, an impulsive, macho act, out of place and with no type of consent on my part.”

In addition, the statement from the football federation officials called for a management reorganization, which many Spanish players have requested following the incident.

Worldwide outrage over Rubiales kiss row:

Across the past week, female football players from all across the world have expressed support for Hermoso.

The Spanish women’s national team signed a letter with Hermoso declaring that they would no longer represent their nation until the football federation’s existing leadership was replaced.

Further afield, a chorus of football players, both male and female, have denounced Rubiales’ behavior and his reluctance to resign.

Nadine Angerer, a two-time Women’s World Cup champion and former German goalkeeper, claimed that the incident had a significant impact on the players.

What occurred is simply horrible, Angerer told DW on Monday.

You recently won the World Cup. You are joyful since this is the result of a lot of hard effort. And everyone participated in the largest event for women in the globe.

Women’s football requires more respect:

Angerer believes that more has to be done to ensure that guys involved in women’s football show “awareness and just normal respect.”

This is a stance shared by FIFA, which has temporarily suspended Rubiales and directed him not to contact Hermoso or anybody close to her.

The suspension will be in effect for 90 days, pending the outcome of FIFA disciplinary proceedings to establish whether Rubiales breached “the basic rules of decent conduct” and acted “in a way that brings the sport into disrepute.”

Rubiales could face consequences at home as well, as Spanish authorities started a sexual assault case against him on Monday.
