The International Hockey Federation (FIH) oversees the Hockey World Cup, an international field hockey tournament. The competition first began in 1971. Every four years, it takes place. The history of the tournament has been controlled by five nations. With four tournament victories, Pakistan is the most successful squad. Germany, Australia, and the Netherlands have all each won two championships. The competition was once won by India.

Every two years, the first three events were held. The only competition to be conducted after two competitions was the 1978 Cup. The competition has been contested every four years since 1982.

 

The 13th edition of the Hockey World Cup took place in The Hague, Netherlands, in 2014. Australia defeated Netherlands in the championship match to claim the 2014 Hockey World Cup. The 14th Hockey World Cup 2018 was place in Bhubaneswar, Odisha (India), from November 28 through December 16. After a 0-0 tie in regulation, Belgium defeated Netherlands 3-2 in penalties to win the 2018 Hockey World Cup.
